BMI – Body Mass Index
BMI stands for Body Mass Index, and it is a measure and calculation that can give you an idea of whether your weight is within a healthy range. It helps to assess that proportionately even based on your height or not. However, please keep in mind that BMI checking is not a perfect indicator of overall health, as it doesn’t take into account factors like muscle mass or body composition. Nevertheless, it is a commonly used tool to assess weight-related health risks.
To calculate your BMI, you’ll need two pieces of information:
Your weight in kilograms and Height in meters.
Formula for BMI Checking
BMI = weight (kg) / height^2 (m^2)
Or you can use an online BMI calculator by plugging in your weight and height, and it will do the math for you.
Once you have your BMI value, you can interpret it using the following categories:
Categories of BMI Checking
-
Underweight: BMI less than 18.5
-
Normal weight: BMI between 18.5 and 24.9
-
Overweight: BMI between 25 and 29.9
-
Obesity: BMI of 30 or greater
